Climate change adaptation

Despite global efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, there will be inevitable changes to the climate in our lifetimes. Climate projections for our region indicate longer drier summers and increased frequency storms. This is increasing the threat of bushfires, heatwaves and violent storms to lives, property, economic activity and the environment.

To help our city and region, the ACT is developing a Climate Change Adaptation Strategy; Living With a Warming Climate. The goal of the Climate Change Adaptation Strategy will be to reduce our vulnerability to the impacts of extreme weather events and increase resilience of our community.

The ACT Government is monitoring the predicted impacts of climate change for the Territory; these have been captured in the Australian Capital Territory climate change snapshot, developed as an outcome of the NSW and ACT Regional Climate Modelling project.
