Biodiversity & school grounds
ACTSmart Schools provides resources to help schools manage the biodiversity in their school grounds. It offers advice on how to develop school grounds to protect existing wildlife and increase biodiversity.
Biodiversity Resources
When addressing biodiversity, establishing an environment centre and enhancing school grounds, schools receive a Biodiversity Best Practice Guide. This guide provides step by step instructions, including a School Grounds and Biodiversity Survey, to help the school develop an appropriate Biodiversity Action Plan. It focuses on flora, fauna, soils and landscape design. ACTSmart Schools provides the following resources:
- Establishing an environment centre case study (
390 kB) - Parent Green Team case study (
359 kB)
Biodiversity and Aboriginal Curriculum Programs
ACTSmart Schools has Biodiversity Curriculum Units (P-Y10)
(
469 kB) and an ACT Aboriginal Curriculum Program
(
1.4 MB) to support ‘Every Chance to Learn’, the ACT Curriculum Framework. The units address the Essential Learning Achievements and provide a diverse range of activities and assessment tasks relevant to the ACT.
