Waste Resources
The Actsmart Schools program offers services and resources to help schools address waste management. The program also provides:
- a Waste and Recycling Best Practice Guide that provides step-by-step instructions and recommendations to help schools reduce, reuse and recycle their waste and develop a waste and recycling action plan
- visits from Actsmart Schools officers to discuss waste and recycling at your school
- an interactive waste display for schools to borrow: Borrow the interactive Waste Display
- a compost and worm farm display for schools to borrow: Borrow the Compost and Worm Farm Display
- free stickers for bins signage Sticker order form
- facilitated school waste audits
- professional learning on the sustainable management of waste and recycling
- waste-free lunch postcards and posters Poster - 'What's in your waste-free lunchbox?'
- in-class incursions on recycling in the ACT for national recycling week
- examples of best practice and case studies on sustainable management of waste: waste case study
Schools can also take advantage of other resources and services, including:
- Tours of the Materials Recovery Facility (MRF): Schools can visit the Recycling Discovery Hub at Hume to see where their recycling and waste goes after it is collected.
- The Actsmart public event recycling program: A free program to help event organisers implement recycling facilities at school fetes, festivals or sporting events.
